OFCOM is a censorship company in the UK, founded in 2003, where audiences can complain about contents which are broadcasted or streamed both online and through television. OFCOM is not funded by the government, since they are an independent company, they are funded by BBC.
In Indonesia, we have something quite similar, a company which regulates the communications services that we use. Instead of OFCOM, Indonesia's regulator is called KPI, that is government funded. KPI, stands for Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia, is responsible to monitor and regulates media broadcasting in Indonesia.
An example of censorship that happened in Indonesia is with the movie Lightyear (2022), from Disney. This movie was not played in the Indonesian cinemas during the release date of the movie. It is stated that it was not played due to a scene which contains explicit LGBTQ+ content. It is also not available in other countries, which have Muslims as a majority, such as Oman, Palestine, Lebanon, and many more. These countries does not agree to play the movie in cinemas unless the scene that contains LGBT content was cut or removed. But Disney could not agree on doing this, therefore the movie Lightyear (2022) was not played in these Muslim countries, who are holding on tight to their base ideology.
This case study is an example of media regulations.
